Bus Barns and Canada Post

First – Thanks to Leo for pointing us to this story from the Toronto Star about the possibility of a transit museum/interpretive centre at the TTC barns at Coxwell and Danforth.

Second – MP, Jack Layton’s office is holding a community meeting to discuss local Canada Post services this Sunday (Feb 21st) from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Woodgreen Community Centre at 1491 Danforth (Classrooms 1 &2).  Representatives from Canada Post will be on hand to hear from residents.

  1. I would be interested to know what the attendance rates of the other urban transit museums are. What does such an institution bring to the Danforth? Can’t we put the bus barn to a greater use for the community and city in general?

  2. I had never heard of the TTC proposal before which is a little surprising considering the amount of banter about the site over the past year. I would support this add-on to the site. It could be the kick-start we (and the TTC and City) have been looking for to enable a proper re-development of the entire site. As you all know, or have heard, thinking about replacing the kitchen cabinets usually means gutting the entire ground floor. If done well it could be a funky space that brings tourists to the “hood”. As an example have a look at the Roundhouse park now constructed at the base of the CN Tower. The site is large enough to also include housing, a public plaza, arts space etc. I would add this to the agenda of the next DECA meeting. Brian.

  3. I think the bus barns would be an ideal place for an artscape community, similar to the wychwood car barns reno.
