The market this week: Is it really September?

Some say September means back to school and the beginning of fall.  But it doesn’t seem like mother nature got the memo.  Which is good news if you want pretend, for one more week, that it’s still August.  The rain should hold off this afternoon which is the perfect reason to take a long summer walk through East Lynn Park and stop by the farmers market on your way home.  The bonus: September is usually the best month for local produce!  Here are some of the activities you’ll find this week.

  • Winery: You’re in luck! This week we have two wineries joining us: Pillitteri Estates and 13th Street Winery.
  • Community Table: The folks from Red Propeller will be back again talking car seat recycling in advance of their  upcoming drop-off dates at Silly Goose Kids (Saturday, September 10th, 10 am-5pm).  See our previous post for all the details.
  • Wellness Booth: Thinking about a career change, need your resume updated or planning to return to the workforce? Stop by the Wellness Table for a little career inspiration with Beth Yarzab of CareerFit Mom.  Beth loves to talk about career development and will be providing resources and actionable ideas to give your professional life a boost.
  • DesignNook will have a children’s craft activity at 4:30 p.m.

Got an old car seat?

Plus, are you looking to get rid of your old car seat? Don’t leave it on the side of the curb, come learn about a unique car seat recycling program that will soon be coming to our neighborhood care of Silly Goose Kids & Merrily Merrily.  Red Propeller is a social enterprise that helps Ontario families recycle their kids’ car seats but also provides work to those facing barriers to employment. Talk about a great opportunity to teach your lil’ environmentalist-in-the-making all about recycling. Check out the poster below for the full details about upcoming drop-off dates and locations. (Please don’t lug your car seats to the market this week as the Red Propeller crew will only be on hand to answer questions, the two drop off dates are in September.)

We’ve all been eagerly awaiting it—the construction is done in our park! The fences came down this week and in their place are beautiful new benches and an accessible walkway into the children’s playground. Just in time, too, for a highlight week at the Market. So grab your picnic blanket, stretch out, grab your weekly fare from our farmers and say hi to a neighbour or two. There’s lots of fun happening this week you won’t want to miss out on!

For all ages:

Jazz lovers—attending this week’s Market is a must! Once again, East Lynn will take part in the Beaches International Jazz Festival’s Farmer’s Market Series. For the kids:

School’s out, but reading’s always in! This week, the Toronto Public Library will be offering pop-up stories and crafts to littles, starting at 4:30 p.m. Once they’re done, you can turn ‘em loose in the splash pad.

The Toronto Tool Library’s youth program, TTL Kids, will be at the market too, with a sweet activity—assembling marshmallow catapults. We can see all the dads trying to catch marshmallow bombs with their mouths already. All young inventors invited to participate in this free, fun learning-based activity!
