More market magic, now with momos!

The Nepali Momo family at the market in 2022

Our first week of the market was hopping! We are keeping the magic going this week with an encore performance of fairy door painting and glitter tattoos, thanks to The Princess Lily Series and Karina Sadu realty, respectively.

This week we are excited to welcome back Nepali Momos and their delicious dumplings! They have them hot and ready for a park picnic or frozen for a quick and delicious weeknight dinner. Also this week, you’ll be able to wash those dumplings down with homegrown ginger beer from Gingerbug or regular beer from Muddy York, as you wish.

We will also welcome back Hiveshare honey, Hooked prepared foods and fish, Oy’s Joy’s baked goods, St John’s bakery, Mad Mexican salsas and chips, and Just Shut Up and Try It sauerkraut and kimchi!

PS …we are still looking for volunteers for the yard sale morning and the market through the summer. Find the signups at www.DECA.to

Volunteers needed for clothing drive and multi-seller sale

The DECA Yard Sale has over 100 sales on the map right now and we have 10 (and counting) people signed up for our multi-seller sale at Kimbourne Park United Church. It’s not too late to sign up — go to www.DECA.to/yardsale

If you (or maybe a teenager you know) has any time on Saturday, we could really use a hand at Kimbourne to help with the sale and the clothing/small appliance collection. You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FAEAB28A4FA7-danforth

Here are the shifts we are looking to fill:

1130-230: Set up tables to receive donations; vet and sort donations as they come in (lunch included)

200-430 Help sellers take down tables, vet and sort items for donation

Bikes, fairies, flowers and more at this week’s market!

A big thank you to all those that came out to Hirut for our volunteer orientation dinner on Monday night. We had a good turnout, an amazing meal, and some truly great conversations.

Market time!

This Thursday, June 1 is the first farmers’ market of the season. We are in East Lynn Park from 3 til 7, rain or shine. Here’s what’s happening:

Community Booth

In our weekly community booth, 32 Spokes will be on hand to do light tuneups on your bikes.

Kids’ Activities

As mentioned in an earlier post, we will be painting wooden fairy doors with the author of the Princess Lily series  , starting at 4pm.

Glitter tattoos, sponsored by Karina Sadu at Homelife Realty, will also be happening in the kids’ tent!

Rotating vendors

In addition to our usual slate of amazing vendors (see the list here) we are welcoming Queensdale Flowers and Bata Maple Syrup to the market this week! Queensdale Flowers will have local, sustainably grown cut flower products: fresh bouquets, everlasting (dried) bouquets, wreaths, pins. Bata Maple Syrup will have maple syrup and grass-fed beef from their farm just east of Toronto. And our first brewery of the season will be Left Field.

See you at the market!

Market kicks off this Thursday!

Pssst… will we see you at the Volunteer Orientation Dinner tonight? All info is at www.DECA.to

It’s the first Thursday in June this week, and as many neighbours know, this means the beginning of market season in East Lynn Park! We will be there with seasonal fruits and veggies, prepared foods, baked goods and beer every Thursday, 3-7pm, until October 12.

Our first week will have a little more magic than usual in the kids’ tent as kids will get to paint their own fairy doors with the author of the Princess Lily series, Sarah Bankuti. You can find more about Princess Lily at their insta @theprincesslilyseries — they write and publish inclusive children’s books and donate them to hospitals worldwide! Note that this activity will run 4-6pm.

We will also be doing glitter tattoos for kids in the kids tent (thanks to the generosity of Karina Sadu at Homelife Realty), and 32 Spokes will be on hand for bike tuneups!

You can check out DECA.to/market for more info on this year’s booths and vendors.

See you at the market!
