Danforth Ave Construction Meeting – Apr 16

Hi Everyone – There is some construction scheduled for Danforth Avenue, east of Woodbine, including the street and sidewalks.  Some good news too, including trees and other greening initiatives!

On Wednesday, April 16, between 5:00-9:00pm, drop by 2575 Danforth Avenue (east of Main) for more information. Here’s the poster (2 pages), and the text is copied below just in case the poster shows up teeny tiny on your screen.

Public Notice andDrop-in event FINAL

Public Notice andDrop-in event FINAL p2

The City of Toronto has scheduled watermain replacement, road and sidewalk reconstruction, paving and streetscape improvements on Danforth Avenue between Woodbine Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue. Various streetscaping elements are being implemented in cooperation with the Danforth Village Business Improvement Area (BIA). This work will bring the roadway up to a state of good repair, and beautify the street. This project is part of the Council approved 2014 Capital Works Program.

Disruptions During Construction

As with all construction projects, there will be noise and temporary inconveniences. In order to complete the work effectively and in a safe manner, there will be restrictions to turning, parking and driving lanes in and around the work area. Alternative parking arrangements will be made when required.

Access for all services (i.e. garbage collection, emergency vehicles or any other usual services) will be maintained. Pedestrian access to businesses and walkways will be maintained on both sides of the road at all times during construction.

The contractor will further notify you of any temporary disruptions. Every effort will be made to reduce the inconvenience. The City appreciates your understanding and co-operation.

Private Items on City Property

Some properties may have signage, outdoor fruit stands or other physical features in front of their properties which are within the City property limits. These may be in conflict with the construction. In such cases, owners are advised to remove these items prior to the beginning of construction. The City will not be responsible for damage to any privately owned items installed on the City’s property.

Work Hours

Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with work after hours and on Sundays as required.

New #DanforthEast Garage Sale Date & Oakcrest, Cassels Mtng

The #DanforthEast Garage Sale will be on SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 2014 (not June 8). Mark your calendars and keep de-cluttering!

And for anyone who uses Oakcrest or Cassels Parks, Councillor McMahon is holding a meeting on Thursday, April 3, 2014 with landscape architect Stewart McIntosh to brainstorm your ideas and dreams for improving the parks.

The meeting is happening at the Naval Club, 1910 Gerrard St. East, 7:30 pm. RSVP to Laurie Smith if you want to attend, lsmithc(at)toronto.ca.

Let’s Party! Save the date: April 12

It’s been a long winter. Power outages, Polar Vortex, snow, the return of the Polar Vortex, and even more snow. If there was ever a Spring to celebrate, this is it. So save the date for Saturday, April 12, 12-4 pm, 1811 Danforth, because we’re inviting you to kick off your Sorrels and get together with your neighbours to party.

We’re calling it Danforth East Dreams. We were so inspired by #DreamPopup survey response, we decided to up our game and go even bigger. What do you want to see next for DE? A co-work space? Community gardens? Ping pong in the park? And we know dreams are a good place to start because the Farmer’s Market, Arts Fair, Pumkin Parade, Pop-up Shops, Adopt- a-Tree and Yard Sale (or a community association) all began as someone’s big idea.

Come out and tell us. Or show us. Because this isn’t a meeting: it’s a party. We’re going to have all kinds of fun, interactive ways to share your ideas. Put your house and ideas up on the giant map of the hood, Neighbourland (apologies to Candy Chang); pin your dreams to our clothesline; get interviewed by roving kid-reporters; build your dream with the crafty Mrs. Darling (of Mrs. Darling’s Imaginarium for Boys & Girls fame); get your bike tuned up for spring by the folks from 32 Spokes; or just come and hang out and be inspired.

Besides all the free activities, we’ve also got free snacks and drinks to fuel your creative energy–popcorn courtesy of Moberly Natural Foods; java and treats from Melanie’s Bistro; beer from family-run, DIY-ers Beau’s.

But that’s not all.

Right next door, at 1803 Danforth, from 11-3 pm, Toronto’s Repair Cafe is partnering with the Tool Library and offering you free repairs of your broken stuff! The volunteer-run organization is committed to giving people the confidence to fix your things instead of making them landfill fodder. They’ll have fixers available for computers and other electronics, small appliances and furniture, and clothing and more. Our current pop-up shop, Veritus Pictures, will also be open for business– take a stroll through his gallery and find out about his fabulous workshops.

So start dreaming about the hood and tweet your ideas with #DEdreams to get us started.

Special thanks to the owners of 1803 & 1811 Danforth, Haig and David, for the use of their space for the day.
