The Market this Week: Corn, Community Fridges, Kidpreneurs and More!

First, some business to take care of with you, neighbours. This market wouldn’t happen without our volunteers, and they are spread a little thin. Can you help? We still need people to help with setup, kids’ activities and take-down. Click the button below for more info.

And now, the fun stuff! To celebrate the return of corn to the market, we have some special kids’ activities lined up, including button-making with DECA volunteers, activities with Pegasus Dance Studios, and paper crafts and robots with the Toronto Public Library Danforth-Coxwell Branch.

And speaking of kids, we will have our second week of market Kidpreneurs. Swing by and pick up some treasures from Hooked Crochet or grab a baked treat from Brownie Girl!

In our Community Booth, Community Fridges TO are making their monthly visit to the market and inviting you to drop off market food, non-perishables, or personal care items.

Our Popup Vendors this week are Flaming Serpent Hot Sauce and Wholesome DeeLights Nut Butters!   Our Rotating Vendors are Bata Maple Syrup, Just Shut up and Try it fermentations, and Fairweather Brewery.

And of course, we will have corn from Son-in-Law Produce, alongside all the other vendors that you know and love.  See you at the market!

Market this week: greener and greater!

It’s been a pretty bang-up season so far this year — thank you for coming out and enjoying local food and local company!

This week is about living a little greener — you can get your bike tuned up with our friends at 32 Spokes, visit with the Clean Air Alliance and talk about their local initiatives, and meet the Green Neighbours Network, a non-profit organization that connects and collaborates with neighbourhood green groups and supports initiatives for sustainability and climate action. They are promoting their research project Caterpillars Count, which investigates insect populations and biodiversity in the Beaches-East York riding. They’ll have an educational kids activity that emphasizes the importance of insects, resources for adults on recognizing invasive species in the garden, and information on how native species and pollinators contribute to a healthy ecosystem. Find them @gnntoronto

In the kids tent, we will have Create Art Studio running an activity for the kids, and DECA volunteers doing glitter tattoos.

Our Local Business Popup Vendors this week are One Last Thing and Farmer’s Sodas. Make sure to come by for a great snack and a hand-crafted bevvie!

Our Rotating Vendors this week are Bata Maple Syrup and Just Shut up and Try It fermentations. Our brewery is Great Lakes Brewery.

Our Kidpreneur tent will start July 11 — stay tuned for that lineup!

Pride at the Market with special guests and Community Fridges

We are thrilled to bring back Pride at the Market this week! There will be fun activities for the kids with Karina Sadu Realty, a community art project with Mischief Makers, and kids’ music fun with Fun with Music Together*. There will also be live music and a photo booth.

We will have our usual great lineup of vendors with special guest Gary Godelie with his pasture-raised beef, and Fairweather Brewery in the rotating brewer’s booth.

Finally, don’t forget to bring a food item to share with a neighbour in need via the Community Fridges TO!

* A word from our friends at Fun with Music Together: Fun. Fabulous. Uplifting. Magical!” These are just a few of the ways that parents describe Fun With Music Together. In these special, award winning classes, the activities are specifically designed to guide you in how to support music development in your child, and how to connect with them through musical play. The research-based curriculum not only develops your child’s natural musicality, it will open the door to a world of possibility, not only for music learning but for ALL learning!

Fun With Music Together is celebrating 20 years of joyful music making with thousands of families in the GTA. Summer semester begins July 6th for 7 weeks of music making all summer long!

What a busy week in Danforth East! Last Thursday, our first market of the season was a blast — East Lynn Park was hopping with great vendors and satisfied market-goers picnicking on the grass, listening to live music.  And Saturday saw more than 150 sales animating the streets and churchyards of our neighbourhood. The clothing drive was a huge success, with several carloads of clothes and small appliances collected for Kennedy House and New Circles.  A huge thank you is owed to all of our volunteers who organized and ran these events, and to the volunteers who carried ALL the things!

It’s market day again in East Lynn! We are looking forward to the same vendor lineup as last week but with more flowers! In our community booth this week we have Woodgreen Community Services -stop by to learn about all of the amazing services they provide! In the kids’ tent we have Create Art Studio, and our local business popup booth is Ila’s Kitchen. Our rotating brewery this week is Red Tape.

Finally, we are still looking for people to help with take-down of the market. This is a straightforward hour of volunteering for someone strong-ish and energetic. You can sign up here

It’s Yard Sale Day! and Clothing/Small Appliance Drive Day

The forecast today looks partly sunny and fully fun! Check our map to plan your yard sale route and see what local businesses are participating in the sidewalk sale. Note that yard sale signups are now closed.

Multi-seller Sale

Come by the Multi-seller Sale at Kimbourne Park and shop the wares of more than 10 sellers! Enjoy a bbq snack from Kimbourne while you’re there!

Clothing and Small Appliances Drive

As we did last year, DECA will be collecting clothing and small appliances for New Circles and Kennedy House Youth Shelter.  You can drop things off from 11 until 3. We are particularly looking for clothes and shoes for young men but are happy to take any clean, good condition clothing and small appliances you have. (And if you have time to spare in the afternoon, we could still use some volunteers on intake and delivery).

See you in the neighbourhood!

It’s Market Day!

Pop by East Lynn Park and say hello to our new and returning vendors! The market runs every Thursday from now until October 17, rain or shine. Enjoy treats from this week’s Pop Up vendors: Ila’s Kitchen with her small batch gourmet pickles and chutneys and Peter from Flaming Serpent with his natural, handcrafted, artisan hot sauces.  Grab dinner from Hooked or Magic Oven and a sweet treat from Ampersand Bakehouse, and maybe take home some beer from Great Lakes Brewery.

We’ll have live music and kids activities from The Space, as well as free produce bags and containers to help you reduce your plastic use.

We look forward to seeing you at the park, 3-7pm!
