DECA Connections: Three Events for you in the next week

With news of the city going into lockdown on Monday, DECA would like to wish our community strength and solidarity. We are fortunate to be part of such a kind and compassionate community and we have seen the resilience of our friends, neighbours, teachers, healthcare workers and all the other front line workers and local businesses in our neighbourhood. We know the road ahead is filled with trepidation. If you or your neighbour need support please reach out to DECA via our socials or by email at info@deca.to. There are so many services in the east end trying to help us all get through this, and we will do our best to connect you.

In the coming days, let’s try to stay connected to each other! We have three virtual events coming up to share with you:

DECA Open Meeting – Wednesday, November 25

Are you interested in chatting with us about what the board does or how you can get involved? Join us at our open monthly board meeting this Wednesday, 7:30-8:00pm. The link to the meeting will be posted at deca.to.

Virtual Tree Lighting – this weekend

Normally at this time of year we would be busy planning for our annual festival of lights, which brings our community together to celebrate the end of year festivities. Along with so many of our other favourite events, this one has had to be pared down this year. Happily, however, the East Lynn lights will still shine this winter!  Thanks to the city, the traditional festive lights are going up, and will raise our spirits and provide light as the sun goes down earlier each day. We would like to invite you to join us on Instagram or Facebook next Saturday at 5:30pm as we “turn ON” the lights at the park! Please get involved by sharing photos of your own lights/decorations/festivities. Tag #danfortheastlights so we can all enjoy their beauty!

Danforth Discussions #4 – Monday November 30

Join us next Monday for the fourth in our Discussion series. This time we are excited to welcome back Dr. Notisha Massaquoi in conversation with Lanrick Bennett Jr. Dr. Massaquoi was with us for the first Discussion, and we are thrilled that she is coming back to talk in more detail on the important topic of “Mental Health in BIPOC Communities.” Get  the Zoom link at deca.to

We look forward to seeing you at one or all of these virtual events. And remember, at this time our local businesses need our support more than ever so if you can please shop local!

That’s a wrap for this year’s East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market

What a whirlwind 4 months it’s been! – Starting in June, taking a market that couldn’t happen in the park and finding creative solutions to get the food from our farmers to our neighbors all summer long! It was a lot of logistics, troubleshooting, laughter and a tonne of fun.

Thank you to Yuri Fraser, our Farmers Market Ontario market manager, for working on the ground and behind the scenes to manage the huge task of vendor logistics.

Thank you Rebecca Green for finding our market a home and for your fearless leadership of our DECA volunteer crew.

Thank you to the team of DECA volunteers of all ages who emptied trucks, sorted orders and delivered each week.

Thank you to The Danforth Mennonite Church for being a temporary home to our weekly market sorting.

And finally, thank you to all our faithful, weekly customers. You braved the wacky online ordering process to not only support our farmers each week, but raise much needed funds to help our local seniors through The Neighbourhood Group.

Great news for fans of Oy’s Joys and their delicious baked goods! Even though East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market is done for the season, Oy’s Joys’ shop is still open weekly from Friday to Tuesday on Open Food Network until Oct 15th – AND one of our DEDICATED market volunteers has volunteered her front porch for a Thursday 12-2pm pick up!

Simply select “MMs Porch” from the drop down menu when you place your order and then pick up your order from 34 Keystone the following Thursday between 12-2pm.

Here are just a few of the people who made it all happen this year. (Thanks also to Great Lakes Brewery for supplying beverages for our socially distanced wrap party)

Last week of the East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market

Yes, it’s true. Orders will close this Tuesday at noon for our last Thursday deliveries of the year. DECA hoped to have the market continue into October, but with all of our produce farmers hit hard this year by weather and labour issues – they are not able to continue into the fall.

This also means it’s your last chance through The DECA Store to:

  • Renew your Family DECA Membership
  • Scoop one of our handmade market masks – ON SALE for $10
  • Submit your Pay What You Can Delivery Donation

Let’s show the vendors some love this last week and stock up!

Pasta Tucci: Spinach Spaghetti, Chick pea flour & Sweet Potato Spaghetti, Roasted Garlic Rosemary Fettuccine, Plain Fusilli, Roasted Pepper Sauce,  Sun Dried Tomato Pesto, Spicy Tomato and Tomato Sauce
