Danforth East struts its stuff this weekend

Pop-ups, Pets, and Pappas – Danforth East has it all this weekend.

Pop-Up Launch Weekend! (in case you hadn’t heard)

In case you need one more reason to come out and support our amazing pop-ups, our friend and neighbour Catherine Porter wrote about the summer pop-ups in today’s Toronto Star.  If you missed it, here is her column.

If you need more details about our launch weekend and the pop ups, check out the DECA website by clicking here.

Wag’s Adopt-a-thon

Our friends at Wag continue to be awesome. Adopt at cat there on Saturday, June 15 from 10:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.  If you don’t want a cat, why not go there anyway and buy something for a furry friend in your life?

Father’s Day Ideas

Odds are, you are a dad, have a dad, are married to a dad, or in some way shape or form need of a gift for Father’s Day on Sunday.

Go for a walk.  Our neighbourhood has so many little shops and stores, and some of them may surprise you.  By way of example, here are a few Father’s Day gift idea pics posted by some local shops, and who posted them might surprise you…

Grand Opening Celebration at East Lynn Park Farmer Market

Grand Opening Celebration 2013

Unfortunately last week’s rain put a bit of a damper on the first market day.  The good news is that all our favourite local farmers will be back again this week, plus a whole lot more!  The official Grand Opening Celebration is set for this Thursday.  The line up includes:

  • Zero Gravity Circus will be on hand with stilt walkers and a hula hoop activity.
  • Toronto Master Gardeners will be set up with a booth to answer all your gardening questions.
  • There will be button making (3:30pm) , Mrs. Darling’s crafts (4:30pm) and garden crafts (5:30pm) at the Kids Korner, along with the regular face painting.
  • Dancers from Pegasus Studio will perform at 5:00pm

The East Lynn Farmer’s Market runs every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. between June 6 – October 17 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave.

Monarch Park tree walk – June 13

Thanks to Friends of Monarch Park for the following message:

As many of you know Monarch Park lost some very mature trees during the big wind storm last fall. Friends of Monarch Park has been working closely with the cities Parks department and LEAF to try and have these trees replaced as well as having new trees planted to replenish the parks tree canopy.

This fall there will be new trees planted and Friends of Monarch Park would like all interested members of the community to come out to see the proposed plan and give their feedback. Uyen Dias, Natural Resource Specialist, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Urban Forestry Services for the City of Toronto has tried to include a diversity of species, as well as groves and native species where possible as well as flowering trees for interest.

Please come out on Thursday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. to the North-East corner of Monarch Park to review the proposed plan and give your feedback.

Hope to see you there!

Toronto Animal Services Chip Truck here on Saturday

Is your pet microchipped?

On Saturday, June 8th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., the Toronto Animal Services Chip Truck will be set-up in the parking lot across from the pool at Stan Wadlow Park on Cedarvale, north of Cosburn.

The Chip Truck offers City of Toronto pet licences and a microchip for only $25 for cats and $35 for dogs.

If your pet is already licensed and you just need a microchip, you can get your pet microchipped for only $10 (with proof of a current City of Toronto pet licence).

There is no appointment necessary. And the Chip Truck is open to everyone. Just grab your cat or dog and come to the Chip Truck.

All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be properly contained in a carrier. Please bring photo identification with your address.

(Sadly, I don’t think they sell french fries)
