#DanforthEast Pride events

DECA Pride was started by DECA to bring together the east end LGBTQ+ community and create spaces and events where we live. Allies are welcome.

For more information or to join the DECA Pride email list, visit DECA.to/Pride or send us an email.

Join us on Tuesday, June 12 to celebrate queerness, community and pride at a free reading of Any Other Way: How Toronto Got Queer. 7:30-9:00pm at Red Rocket Coffee, 1364 Danforth.

Hosted by co-editor Jane Farrow, we will hear pieces from Kate Zieman, Cathi Bond, Ed Jackson, and Karen B.K. Chan. You can buy a copy of the book for a special price of $20 (cash only). Facebook event here with more info.

We are also planning our third annual DECA Pride @ The Market on June 21st from 3-7pm, generously sponsored by Steve’s Quality Meats and Deli (1938 Danforth – across the street from East Lynn Park).

Over the course of the afternoon, we’ll have Pride themed arts and crafts with Silly Goose Kids and Create Art Studio and we’re happy to welcome back the Coe Hill Girls to sing and play from about 5-6pm.

Shout out to corbin creative for designing the poster.

Happy Pride, Danforth East!

VOTE! and other news

Image result for vote

Election Day is Thursday, June 7. DECA is non-partisan and honestly, we do not take positions on politics at any level. We do, however, advocate for community engagement and participation and encourage every eligible voter to exercise this precious right on Thursday (or today).

If you are 18, a Canadian citizen and a resident of Ontario, you can vote.

You can click here to find out where to vote on Election Day using your postal code: https://voterinformationservice.elections.on.ca/en/election/search

You can also vote in person on Wednesday at your local Returning Office. The link above will tell you where. (Note that the “advanced polling” locations are now closed, so ignore those!)

If you do not have a voter info card but are otherwise eligible you can still vote. Show up to vote with a piece of ID or bill that shows your name and address. (You can use an original identification document, a photocopy of an identification document, or an electronic copy displayed on a mobile device. This includes utility bills received electronically.)

East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market!

June 7th is the first market of the year! We’ll have the official opening day on June 14th, but there will be farmers there tomorrow so plan to stop by between 3-7pm at East Lynn to say hi and support our farmers, either before or after you vote!

#DanforthEast Yard & Sidewalk Sale

We couldn’t help but mention that the 6th annual #DanforthEast Yard Sale is happening June 9th – add your sale to the big map or use it to plan your own shopping. Many shops are participating in the sidewalk sale and the Danny BIA has planned all sorts of activities along the Danforth. See you then! If you missed our post last weekend about it, find it here.

The Danforth East Yard Sale is happening this Saturday June 9th from 8-2pm!  If you are taking part, why not start promoting your sale now? This year in addition to our big map, we have a poster that you can print to promote your own sale. It is a great way to get some extra buyers. If you’ve got some great stuff to sell, why not add your yard sale poster to social media? Just snap a photo of it, share it and let folks know what you’ll be offering up for sale on Saturday. Let’s get this party started! Hashtag #DanforthEast. Yard sale sign-up link: deca.to/yardsale.

#DanforthEast Yard Sale & Sidewalk Sale on June 9 – one more week!

It’s not too late to sign-up to sell, and it’s not too early to plan all of your buys. Once again, we’ve partnered with the Danforth Mosaic BIA so not only are the residents holding sales, but many businesses are too!

In fact, the BIA has organized to have activities and entertainment along the Danforth so there will be fun for everyone that day!

#DanforthEast Yard Sale & Sidewalk Sale
June 9, 2018, 8:00am-2:00pm
**Rain or shine**

To check out the big map or to sign up for your own sale, click here.

Please note that yard sales can only be added if you live in the DECA area (plus a few blocks on some sides). We would love to include all east-enders but as volunteers, we just can’t manage an area bigger than this one to administer. The Sidewalk Sale goes all the way to Jones though!

The event is rain or shine so fingers crossed that our perfect streak of weather continues!
