It’s August and it’s a beautifully hot and busy mid-summer in the East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market, and we are complementing the farmers’ bounty of veggies, fruit, wine, baking and ready-made meals with a bounty of fun activities.Next door to the kids’ tent, you’ll find a professional photographer ready to snap you and yours. Catherine Cachia is a documentary-style family photographer who lives in the Danforth-Woodbine neighbourhood with her small family. She will be offering a FREE photobooth for kids of all ages to get their picture taken. You can get a professional photo of your child, or have friends and siblings get in on the action, and of course you are invited to join in too! Kids who get their face painted are also encouraged to document their fun transformation. Some props will be available. All photos will be emailed to parents within one week. On the more active side, we will have games in the park with the Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation (TIRF), an organization that reduces the financial, geographical, and cultural barriers that prevent children and youth from participating in organised sport, and in doing so builds stronger, healthier communities. At the market this week, they will play introductory, non-contact Rookie Rugby games with the children of any attending families and will have a TIRF information table where families can register for the free Rookie Rugby house league at Secord Elementary School. Children ranging from ages 6-12 spend one evening a week participating in fun, inclusive games encouraging healthy community and healthy lifestyles.
