Market this week

Summer may be over but the weather for THIS Thursday is looking very, very nice. And for the next few weeks, Thursdays are still market days!

If the locally grown/produced bread, cheese, wine, apples, potatoes, greens, meat, etc., doesn’t make you want to rush the park at 3:00pm (or 6:00pm for many of us), then maybe these special visitors will:

  • Our community group will be the Merrill Park Dog Association, who will be chatting about how to foster healthy relationships between kids and dogs. This will be a hands-on demonstration at 4:30pm with some friendly, kid-loving dogs.
  • Our Wellness Guest this week will be The Kennedy Chiropractic Wellness Centre.  They have been providing natural health and wellness-lifestyle care to the East York Community for over 60 years, and are excited to provide East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market patrons a Free individual evaluation, which they explains will use their “state of the art computerized Postural Analysis equipment, that clearly demonstrates the effects of stress on the body.” www.KennedyChiro.ca

Whether you come with the family, the dog, and a picnic blanket, or you are running through on your way home, please try to stop by and buy a few things on Thursdays. Our farmers make long trips to keep bringing us their fresh and delicious fruit and vegetables, and other delicious things – all we have to do is buy and enjoy them.

The East Lynn Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 3-7:00 p.m. between June 5 – October 16 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave. Stay up to date by visiting the East Lynn Market Facebook page.

More Market Yum & Fun!

We have our first scrumptious submission to the photo contest. Thanks Joe for sending it in!

Don’t forget to send your best market pictures to events(at)danfortheastcommunityassociation.com.

This week, Mrs. Darling will be doing crafts at 4:30 while Pegasus Studios will run a pre-school dance activity at 4:30.

And if you’re looking for information on eating organic, or on a certain local dog park (but not an organic dog park), representatives from the Organic Council of Ontario and from the Merrill Park Dog Association will be at the market to answer all your questions.

And here’s a teaser for next week: It’s the FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL!!!! July 18th promises not to disappoint. We have four food trucks confirmed – Crossroads Diner, Corrado’s, Feisty Jacks and Buster’s Sea Cove. Bring your appetites!

The East Lynn Farmer’s Market runs every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. between June 6 – October 17 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave. Stay up to date by visiting the new East Lynn Market Facebook page.

Community Clean Up and More

There are a bunch of community clean-ups happening on Saturday including two that I know about in within the DECA zone…

Merrill Bridge Road Park

The Merrill Dog Park Association is hosting a clean up on Saturday, April 21st between 10 am and noon. Socialize with neighbours, enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a fresh donut while tidying up the park and adjacent ravine. Don’t forget to bring your gloves and garbage bags.

Earl Beatty Community Centre

Join the Earl Beatty Community for the annual Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 21st from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the front of the school and from there teams will scour the area around the school and community centre: north to Milverton, south to Danforth, west to Coxwell, east to Glebemount and the streets in between. We also tidy the school yard, our nearest green space.

Councillor Janet Davis’  Community Environment Day – Sunday, April 29, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

At the parking lots of the East York Memorial Arena, across from the Stan Wadlow Clubhouse, 373 Cedarvale.

Re-use, recycle and safely dispose your unwanted items at Councillor Davis’ Community Environment Day. City staff will be on hand to take your recyclables and provide free compost as well as the following community groups:

  • East York Garden Club will be selling plants
  • East York Community Garden will offer seed-planting to children
  • Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests (LEAF)
  • Danforth East Community Association (DECA) (That’s us!)
  • Toronto Water
  • LiveGreen
  • Women’s Healthy Environments Network (WHEN)
