Market this week: Pride!

For the 4th year in a row, DECA Pride is pleased to present Pride at the Market!

This Thursday, June 20 from 4-7pm at East Lynn Park, here’s what’s in store (note that the farmers are there starting from 3:00pm onward):

Art Activityshow your pride and make your own flag to represent yourself / what you are proud of, hosted by the fantastic creatives at Create Art Studio, located at 1801 Danforth (this amazing studio has it all, classes, camps, parties, corporate events!)

Photo booth & more!  Monarch Park Collegiate’s Queer Straight Alliancewill set up and run Pride photo booths (rainbow and pink) for all the photo ops. They will also be handing out stickers, sunglasses and wristbands (generously donated by TD Bank!), and will have a “Count the Skittles” contest going throughout the market.

Music: The fantastic Coe Hill Girls are back with us for another year and will be filling the park with their awesome jams from 5-6pm

Story and craft: TRANSvolution, a local trans group, has teamed up with our friends at Silly Goose Kids to host readings of Rory’s Rainbow at 4:15 and 5:15pm, followed by a related craft. (See poster below) This beautiful story talks about identity expression, gender stereotyping and acceptance and is not widely available in stores.  Stop by Silly Goose at 2054 Danforth after the event on Thursday to buy your copy AND you’ll receive a special LoveisLove package.

On Tuesday, June 12 from 7:30-9:00pm, join DECA Pride at Red Rocket Coffee for readings from the award-nominated anthology Any Other Way: How Toronto Got Queer.

We are thrilled to announce that the writers joining us will include:

Kate Zieman, Cathi Bond, and Ed Jackson. (Maybe others, stay tuned!)

The evening will be hosted by the book’s co-editor, Jane Farrow. Admission is free. Copies of the book will be available for sale for a special price for our event – $20 (cash only).

Red Rocket Coffee is located at 1364 Danforth Ave, between Coxwell & Greenwood Avenues.

There will be light snacks on offer but other food and all beverages (including alcohol) will be available for sale.

DECA Pride Film Screening – May 4

Join DECA Pride (DECA’s LGBTQ+ Group) for a free, all ages community screening courtesy of the Inside Out Film Festival and the S. Walter Stewart Library. 

You will also have a chance to learn more about DECA Pride and other DECA initiatives. 

The screening is absolutely free but for anyone who chooses to, we will be accepting donations to go to a local LGBTQ+ refugee/newcomer group.

DECA Pride event

Our LGBTQ+ group, DECA Pride, is having their next social event this Sunday from 3:30-5:30pm Light snacks are on us and Time Capsule (2183 Danforth) graciously waived their gaming fees for our group. These events are well attended by adults and families – the place is big enough for all and Time Capsule is fully licenced.
