Farmers’ Market: Silly Fun and Cycle Chats

food 4

Did you know that the East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market is a certified local market – meaning everything that is sold at the market is actually made by the farmers who are selling to you? DECA partners with Farmers’ Markets Ontario to bring the farmers to our community each week so we can buy the real deal! Hope you’ve been enjoying the fruits of their labour so far this season and continue to support them as we head into this prime harvest season!

The photo contest is still on! Send your best picture that captures the essence of the market to events(at)danfortheastcommunityassociation.com. We’ll repost all the submissions in a few weeks and ask for your help to vote for a winner!

Songs, Stories and Circle Time with Silly Goose Kids

Our pals from Silly Goose Kids will be at the market at 4:30 pm. Talented mother-daughter duo Erika and Sally will run a storytelling session for the wee ones to enjoy! Plus songs and circle time. Check out the poster below for all the details.

Bike Tune-Ups with 32 Spokes

Members of 32 Spokes will be available at the market week for bicycle maintenance, advice, route planning, bike advocacy discussions and general bike-centric chats! They’ll have spare parts and some new tools to play with, along with our friends from Cycle Solutions who will be helping with more technical repairs free of charge.

Fall is the perfect season for bike riding, when the temperatures are not too sweltering nor too cold, so pop along and say hello and they’ll help you keep your ride running smoothly as long into the year as possible!

The East Lynn Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. between June 6 – October 17 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave. Stay up to date by visiting the new East Lynn Market Facebook page.

Community Picnic and Corn Fest @ East Lynn Farmers’ Market

I’m told that farmers don’t get bothered by the heat.  The wading pool will be open and I suspect there will be a few people with their toes in the water. And besides all that, it’s it’s DECA’s second corn fest at the Farmers’ Market. Two local bands will serenade you, while you chow down on a fresh cob of buttery, sweet corn.

Sean Bray’s Peach Trio plays a mix of American roots and jazz. The Bad Dog trio, headed by DECA volunteer, Tak Bui, is a stomping country and blue grass band. They’ve been practising some kids’ songs so the young ones can singalong

Join us from 5 to 7 this Thursday at East Lynn Park.

Bike Clinic – Don’t forget, DECA’s second bike clinic will be this Saturday, July 23rd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Main Square (S.E. corner of Main and Danforth). There will be 10 bike mechanics with stands, tools and some spare parts, etc. This is a pay what you can event.

The Market This Week – Crafts and Bike Clinic!

Cheese curd, fresh bread, just-picked rasberries, pretty perfect pie pastry, BEANS!, rice balls, local lettuce and your choice of farm-fresh veggies.

What?  That’s not enough to draw you down to the East Lynn Farmers’ Market?

O.k.  Well, this week in the crafting kids corner, Melissa  is crafting some make believe with super hero masks and fancy pocketbooks at 3:30. This one is drop in and all the supplies for the super hero masks are supplied. If your little one would like to make the pocket book, please bring a scarf, boa or necklace for the handle. Recycle something from home or hit up the Value Village on the way! Donations are graciously accepted for future crafts supplies.

As always face painting starts at 4:30. And check out our awesome hand-made-super-beautiful fair games. Ring toss and bean bag throw. Try your hand and win…well win the adoration of your family.

The wading pool will be open.  DECA volunteers helped prepare and paint the pool earlier this year to paint over the graffiti.  Many thanks again to the volunteers who did the handy work. It looks great!  Watch this space for information about how you can help donate funds to cover the cost of painting the pool.

The fabulous Melanie has arranged not one, but two DECA bike clinics.  The first is this Thursday July 14th at the Farmers Market. Have a question, have a problem, bring your bike and get some answers.  The bike doctors will be seeing patients from 3 to 7 p.m.

The second clinic will be July 23rd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Main Square (S.E. corner of Main and Danforth). There will be 10 bike mechanics with stands, tools and some spare parts, etc. This is a pay what you can event.

Next week is the corn roast and family picnic. Stay tuned!
