Come out to Pride at the Market this Thursday!

Music! Art! Photo booth! Glitter tattoos! Pride at the market is going to be a fun and sparkly time this week. Our kids’ activities sponsor, Karina Sadu Real Estate will be holding a colouring contest, and local family music program Fun with Music Together  will be running a pride activity for the kids from 4 til 6 pm. We will also have crafts from Silly Goose Kids, glitter tattoos, and pride flags (while supplies last).

Other booths at the market this week include popup vendor Wholesome Dee Lights Nut Butters , community booth Metrolinx expansion community engagement (bring your questions!), rotating brewery Great Lakes Brewery, and rotating vendors Hiveshare honey, Gingerbug ginger beer, and Queensdale Flowers. For a complete list of our vendors, check out our market page.

See you at the market!

A reminder that we are short on volunteers! If you know anyone able to volunteer, please share this signup link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4faeab28a4fa7-east2#/ (and yes, we do sign community service forms for high school students!)

Market this week: bring nonperishables, personal care items, flashlights, dancing shoes and your appetite!

Food Drive+

After the generous showing of our community at the Clothing and Small Appliance Drive on Saturday, we are back with a few asks for donations at the market this week.

Community Fridges TO will be on hand to collect donations of market foods, non perishables, and personal care items to stock the fridges and personal care banks in our neighborhood. Learn more about them here: https://communityfridgesto.org/

Kennedy House Youth Shelter is collecting flashlights and batteries to give to people living in encampments – it’s one of their most requested items. If you are able to donate, please leave your flashlights in the box in the DECA tent.

All the music

The Lane School of Music will be at the kids’ tent with their “Instrument Petting Zoo” for budding musicians of all ages to play!

Holly Clausius will be back in the busker tent with her catchy and fun tunes. You can learn more about her here: https://www.hollyclausius.com

Also this week, the Princess Lily series is back painting fairy doors 4-6pm in the kids tent as well!

Strawberries and more!

This week we welcome back Son-in-Law produce with strawberries and asparagus! On our rotating vendors list we have Red Tape Brewery, Queensdale Flowers, and Bata Farms maple syrup and beef. You can see a complete list of vendors and upcoming events at https://deca.to/market

See you Thursday!

Thank you, Danforth East!

With 209 sales on the map and so much happening in the area, it was an all-round beautiful day in the neighbourhood on Saturday!

Big thanks are owed to our volunteers for the work behind the scenes creating and updating the map, organizing the sales and keeping that social media fresh! Our yard sale committee consisted of Jenn Scott, Mark Rullo, Raktim Mitra, Audrey Kvedaras, Jenn Macdonald, Julia Hennessy and Rebecca Green. We are very grateful for their time and efforts!

Volunteers at the Clothing/Small Appliance Drive with Kennedy House’s Dayna Gill (second from right) and two van loads of donations!

The community really showed up with donations for Kennedy House Youth Shelter. By the end of the day, we had 4 loads of quality small appliances and clothing for Kennedy House, and an (extremely full) carload of clothes for New Circles. We would not have been able to achieve this without the stellar, energetic work of neighbourhood volunteers!

Finally, we are also grateful to Kimbourne United Church! While DECA rented the space, Daniel and Megan went far above and beyond in hosting the multi-seller sale.

Market volunteers wanted

Don’t worry, the yard sale wasn’t your last opportunity to volunteer with DECA! We are very much in need of folks to set up the farmers market Thursday afternoons and also for people to help with the kids activities. Sign up at the link below:

Saturday in Danforth East —something for everyone!

Here’s what’s happening this weekend…

For bargain-hunters

The yard sale map so far— click the map to go to the live site

Of course, this Saturday is all about the yard sales— and how can you not find a bargain in these 179 sales? Don’t forget to check out the sidewalk sales along the Danforth!

We will have a dozen sales in one at Kimbourne Park United Church, as well as bbq and drinks for sale!

For gardeners 🌼

The annual plant sale is happening at Woodbine Heights Baptist Church — add some greenery to your shopping trolley as you peruse the yard sales!

For the kids

It’s fun fair season, and this Saturday is no exception. St. Brigid’s and RH MacGregor are both promising lots of fun activities!

For those who want to give

Don’t forget our clothing and small appliance drive to benefit the folks at Kennedy House Youth Shelter and New Circles!

More market magic, now with momos!

The Nepali Momo family at the market in 2022

Our first week of the market was hopping! We are keeping the magic going this week with an encore performance of fairy door painting and glitter tattoos, thanks to The Princess Lily Series and Karina Sadu realty, respectively.

This week we are excited to welcome back Nepali Momos and their delicious dumplings! They have them hot and ready for a park picnic or frozen for a quick and delicious weeknight dinner. Also this week, you’ll be able to wash those dumplings down with homegrown ginger beer from Gingerbug or regular beer from Muddy York, as you wish.

We will also welcome back Hiveshare honey, Hooked prepared foods and fish, Oy’s Joy’s baked goods, St John’s bakery, Mad Mexican salsas and chips, and Just Shut Up and Try It sauerkraut and kimchi!

PS …we are still looking for volunteers for the yard sale morning and the market through the summer. Find the signups at www.DECA.to
