The #DanforthEast Yard Sale is here!

Pack up your small bills and food bank donations in your tote bag and head out to the neighbourhood! We’ve got over 200 sales listed on the yard sale map here:

Look for the yellow bins (yellow pins on the map) to see where to drop your donation for the Daily Bread Food Bank. Remember, their most needed items are canned fish, canned tomatoes, canned fruit and veggies, oatmeal, and nut butters.

Q&A with Local Candidates (Part One)

Thank you for your questions, Danforth East and Monarch Park Collegiate! We edited down the many questions we had to five key ones for the candidates:

QUESTIONS FROM DECA SOCIALS:

My question as a tenant in DECA is, will our candidates pledge their support for vacancy control?

What will you do to help small businesses get back on their feet?

What are you going to do for low-income seniors?

QUESTIONS FROM GRADE 9 + 10 STUDENTS IN A MONARCH PARK COLLEGIATE CIVICS CLASS:

How will you tackle Gen Z’s problem with mental health and stress? One in four Gen Z feel emotionally distressed.

Currently, our world is being killed by greenhouse gases. How do you plan on reaching net zero emissions?

THE ANSWERS:

In this post, we share the full answers from Beaches East York NDP candidate Kate Dupuis and Liberal candidate Mary-Margaret McMahon. We will share responses from other candidates as we receive them.

First East Lynn Market of 2022 is this Thursday!

DECA is so excited to announce the return of the East Lynn Market this Thursday, June 2! We have a number of farmers and prepared food vendors committed to being there this week (see full list below), and more as the growing season progresses. You can find us back on the concrete path through East Lynn. Our first week will feature live music, garden advice, bike repairs, and kids’ activities.

Our live music this week features a very special guest. We are thrilled to welcome back Dirty Dishes alum Alison Porter as one part of the duo The Rosy Ramblers, a Leslieville mother/daughter fiddle duo composed of Porter (Mom) and Hazel Evans (daughter). They play traditional fiddle music, and classical pieces in 2 part harmony. Local songstress and CBC darling Nancy White called their act “magical”.

We will also have a kids’ activity at 4pm, with the delightful Em! She will do a circle time for kids 0-6y+ featuring sing alongs and readings of fun inclusive stories! Circle Times with Em is a program for children and their parents/caregivers in East Toronto (as well as performing at local children’s events and birthdays around the city.) See her on instagram @emilia_bender and register for her other classes here:
