This week at the Market – Summer safety and free massages

Thank you to guest blogger Jen Rowe for joining the market social media team and helping to keep us all updated on market happenings this week:

Thank you to everyone who came out to last week’s Grand Opening Celebration of the East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market.

We had perfect weather in an otherwise rainy week and the market was bustling! A special thank you to the volunteers and our sponsors: Toronto Kia, Toronto Honda and Plank Road Market.

You all made the event a big success and we couldn’t do it without you!

At this week’s Market, come by and say hello to the fabulous farmers who will have local produce and meat for sale and this week’s wineries, Pilliteri Estates and Château Des Charmes. While you’re exploring, we have some other great activities planned to round out your Market experience:

Children’s activity:

Beth Yarzab of Career Fit Mom  will have fitness games and drills for your little ones to participate in from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Being active with your kids is a great way to role model the “everyday fitness” lifestyle so jump on in and have fun doing obstacle courses, agility/coordination challenges and role playing activities.

Community Booth:

Toronto East General Hospital Emergency Room nurses will be on hand with information on summer safety, including:

  • Tick and Lyme Disease;
  • Bike and Helmet Safety;
  • Beat the Heat;
  • Pool Safety;
  • Car Seat Safety; and
  • List of doctors accepting new patients.

Wellness Booth:

As you may know, Elevated Health Associates recently opened their doors 1776 Danforth Ave. Toni Sharman, RMT and Osteopath will be on hand to provide information on the clinic and the services they provide along with free 10 minute chair massages.

See you Thursday!

The East Lynn Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 3-7:00 p.m. between June 4 – October 15 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave. Stay up to date by visiting the East Lynn Market Facebook page or by following us on Twitter.

First Week of the 2015 East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market Season!

Come Say Hello!

It’s finally here. Yes, the East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market starts this week. Come by and say hello to returning friends like the Short family form Sun-Ray Orchards, Lina from Lucifero Loaves, the students from School Grown and of course, Alison at the DECA table. There are new people you have to meet too, like Mel from Meadow Sweet Farms, Richard from The Borough and Nick from Pizza Rovente (who will be making made-to-order pizza).

And I’m sure your children will want to say hello to the smiling faces at the face-painting tent. They’ll be there from 4:00-6:30 p.m. all season long.

This year you can introduce yourself to great people from a few new Ontario wineries in addition to the three who came last year. Check out the schedule below and mark your calendars for… every single week!

For the full list of farmers, ready-made food vendors and wineries, check out our website.

Bring Your Bikes

Ditch the car and bring your bikes to the market this week.  The lovely riders from Ward 32 Spokes will be at the market providing light tune-ups. And  Peddleheads cycle-experts will provide bikers of all ages with tips for staying safe while on two (or three) wheels starting at 4:30 p.m.

Another reason to bring your bike is because it’s often difficult to find parking around the park on Thursday afternoons.  Just a little reminder to please be respectful of your neighbours and do not block driveways or block the road with your car while shopping at the market.

Local Food Week

Heart-Square

What separates East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market out from other farmers markets in the city is that all of our farmers are verified local farmers, with farmers selling only what they produce (no resellers or middlemen).  To the farmers who sell at our market, Local Food Week is a way to showcase the diversity, freshness and taste of the food they cultivate themselves and bring directly to our neighbourhood.

To celebrate Local Food Week our partners, Farmers Markets’ Ontario, will be giving away a copy of The Ontario Table cookbook to someone who shops at East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market this week.  All you have to do is (1) come to the market, (2) take a picture and (3) share the picture on social media with the hashtag #LoveONFood and @MyMarketToronto.

Stay tuned for more info about our “Grand Opening Celebration” on June 11th.

Looking forward to saying hello to you all on Thursday.

Preview of the 2015 Farmers’ Market

The East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market will be back for an 8th amazing year starting June 4th! We have some new farmers and vendors joining us this year and some returning favourites. The list of participants has been updated on the DECA website, but we have two new wineries and a few food vendors added to the roster, including a pizza vendor and a cookie maker!

Farmers Market 2015

The market will run for 20 weeks, from June 4 to October 15 with five larger events planned:

  • Grand Opening Celebration – June 11
  • Jammy Jazzfest – July 16
  • Movie in the Park – August 20
  • Applemania – September 17
  • Harvest Moon – October 8

Of course, each week will still be loaded with fun – facepainters, music, children’s games, storytimes and more! As well, local practitioners will be back each week to inspire you on living your best life at the market’s Wellness Booth. There will be everything from yoga, pilates and 3D movement to parenting and career coaching experts.

But, we still need more help! There’s different ways to get involved depending on your interests. The easiest way for many is to simply come and sit at the DECA booth for a few hours. Others get involved by cooking meals for the farmers. We could use some help designing posters for our events and we’re also looking for an eager high school student looking for 3-4 volunteer hours each week.  Send us a note at events(at)danfortheastcommunityassociation.com to find out more.

The Last Farmers’ Market of 2014 – Today

It’s been an incredible 2014 season at the East Lynn Farmers’ Market. Each week we were offered great food from friendly farmers, along with a blessing from the weather gods with the majority of Thursday’s being rain-free. But now it’s time to say good-bye and thank you as this will be the last week of the farmers’ market for 2014.

We would like to send out a HUGE DECA thank you to all the volunteers who made the market happen each week.  These amazing people donate their time to help set up tables, paint children’s faces, cook and serve dinner for the farmers, answer questions and promote DECA, run children’s activities and clean up the tents and tables afterwards. We hear from a number of farmers that our market is their favourite and no doubt it’s because of the great vibe that gets created by the volunteers and, or course, the shoppers!

Please be sure to come by to stock up your freezers and cellars and to say farewell for the season!

The East Lynn Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 3-7:00 p.m. between June 5 – October 16 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave. Stay up to date by visiting the East Lynn Market Facebook page.

Also, representatives from the PanAm Games will be at the park sharing information on what to expect for the games next summer as well as providing an opportunity for younger sports fans to try their luck at a bouncy version of soccer.  Origin Wellness will be our Wellness booth guest today featuring healthy fall recipes.
