Happy Birthday oaks ‘n acorns! Friday, Jan 23

We have seen so many wonderful businesses open in our neighbourhood in the past few years, and oaks ‘n acorns is one of our favourites. Winnie asked us to post the info about their upcoming birthday party, and it’s our pleasure to oblige:

We are excited to announce that we have now been in the lovely neighbourhood for 2 years!
We will be celebrating this grand event next Friday Jan 23 from 9:00am – 3:00pm with lots of super fun activities such as:
Face painting
Disco Party
Open Craft Table
Open Gym
and of course CAKE and amazing prizes
We hope to see you all at our party, thanks again for all your support these last 2 years.

Skate Your Heart Out

Join your neighbours at Monarch Park this weekend for the Friends of Monarch Park Community Skating Party.  Fun runs Sunday from 3:00-5:00 p.m with hot chocolate, music and more.  Check out the poster below or the FoMP Facebook page for all the details.

And a huge thank you to our many hard-working, cold-loving, ice-flooding neighbours for creating rinks in other local parks as well.  The Friends of Stephenson Park have had smooth ice for a few days now and the East Lynn Park volunteers are expecting to have their ice smooth by the weekend.

Two Upcoming events: healthy body, healthy mind

Welcome to 2015 Danforth East! It’s that time of year again – resolution time. January seems like a prime time to focus on self-improvement. We’re fortunate to have many organizations and businesses in the neighbourhood offering options to improve our minds and bodies.  Here are two upcoming events that may be of interest to you and your families.

Family Literacy Day At Danforth/Coxwell Library

Friday is Ray Day!

If you’ve ever crossed at Gledhill and Danforth in the morning, you know Ray the crossing guard. He is the best, and he’s retiring this Friday. Thanks to the Gledhill Guardian for posting the details of the huge send-off planned for Friday morning. See you there!

Are YOU our next Amanda?

Do you walk around our neighbourhood regularly? Do you notice changes and wonder what’s behind them? Do you have some time on your hands to help us make the Danforth a more active commercial strip?

Then you might be our next Amanda!

For the past year, our dear friend Amanda Olson has been the lynchpin of DECA’s Pop Up team. She’s been our master Tweeter, Facebooker and blogger, keeping you all informed about new developments along the Danforth. She helped organize the DECA Dreams event, where we all got to share our ideas and dreams for the neighbourhood. She helped to vet new pop up shops.

She made a big difference in our little pocket and we are so grateful to her.

But sadly, her maternity leave has ended and she’s back at work.

We need a new Amanda — someone who is curious,  likes people, and gets a flutter in their belly when something new opens on the Danforth. Someone with a little time to give during the day. Someone who is ready to give back to the neighbourhood.

The Pop Up Shop team (also know as Renew East Danforth) needs you! Email me, Catherine Porter, if you are keen, at catherine_porter@rogers.com.
We will even throw in a box of Amanda’s “Sweet Snaps” for Christmas. They are her new invention. Not so subtle plug: Rumour has it, they’re on sale at LEN and Silly Goose Kids.
