First East Lynn Market of 2022 is this Thursday!

DECA is so excited to announce the return of the East Lynn Market this Thursday, June 2! We have a number of farmers and prepared food vendors committed to being there this week (see full list below), and more as the growing season progresses. You can find us back on the concrete path through East Lynn. Our first week will feature live music, garden advice, bike repairs, and kids’ activities.

Our live music this week features a very special guest. We are thrilled to welcome back Dirty Dishes alum Alison Porter as one part of the duo The Rosy Ramblers, a Leslieville mother/daughter fiddle duo composed of Porter (Mom) and Hazel Evans (daughter). They play traditional fiddle music, and classical pieces in 2 part harmony. Local songstress and CBC darling Nancy White called their act “magical”.

We will also have a kids’ activity at 4pm, with the delightful Em! She will do a circle time for kids 0-6y+ featuring sing alongs and readings of fun inclusive stories! Circle Times with Em is a program for children and their parents/caregivers in East Toronto (as well as performing at local children’s events and birthdays around the city.) See her on instagram @emilia_bender and register for her other classes here:

This week the Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer garden advice and teach us about invasive vs. native species. We will also have free bike tune-ups with 32 Spokes!

See you Thursday!

#DanforthEast Yard Sale is Back on Saturday, June 11th 8am-2pm!

Do you have lots of stuff you no longer need and could use the space? It’s time for our annual neighbourhood wide yard sale! Our local retailers will be joining in the fun with a sidewalk sale along Danforth East hosted by the Danforth Mosaic BIA.

DECA is populating a map online to show every
home and business participating in the sale!

Once you sign up, your application will be processed and your location added to the map. We will then send out further tips to help you with organizing your sale and contact information if you have questions.

Sign up to add your yard sale to the map here!

The most successful sales are the ones where the whole street gets involved. For example, Coleridge and the streets surrounding East Lynn Park have all had fabulous street sales in the past. You can too! Talk to your neighbours and ask them to get involved by sharing this year’s poster.

Street sales also get a special highlight on our famous yard sale map. The map will be promoted the day before on this site and through social media. Follow us at:

Please also help promote the #DanforthEast Yard Sale through your own networks! The more yard sales we have, the more people will come out, the more successful this neighbourhood event will be.

Check out the current Yard Sale map here!

2022 Danforth East Yard Sale - June 11 8am-2pm

Join us for Market Planning on Wednesday

Members of the DECA Green committee are meeting this Wednesday night (April 20) on Zoom to discuss our plans for the market this year.

Farmers’ Markets Ontario manages the farmers and other vendors for the market, but DECA plans the weekly activities and events, promotes the market, and connects the vendors with the community. Let us know if you are interested in organizing this year! Email green@deca.to or just come to our meeting at 8 pm on Wednesday:

3 Great Ways to Get Involved in Your Community this April!

Don’t let those periodic bursts of hail fool you — spring has sprung in Danforth East and we are looking to (safely, carefully) come out of hibernation and into some community activities. Here are three opportunities for you to get involved!

1. The 8th Annual Danforth East Yard Sale
We are so excited that the Yard Sale/ Sidewalk Sale is back! We are just looking for a volunteer to help run the yard sale. This person would take on the outreach to the Kidney Foundation, coordinate with the BIA and respond to queries by participants. This person should be available on the weekend of the event (June weekend, date tbd). They will work with our board member Raktim to oversee the event.
If you are able to take on this role, please email info@deca.to.

For more info on the yard sale tradition, check out the BlogTO profile of our 2018 event here:

2. The East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market
DECA Green will be meeting in the third week of April to begin planning the events and activities to accompany the farmers’ market this year. We are looking for people to join us to make connections with musicians, eco groups, kids’ activity providers and more. If you’re interested in joining the committee, email us at green@deca.to

3. Earth Day Clean Up
This one isn’t a DECA activity, but we’re sharing because it’s a great opportunity to get together with some neighbours to clean an area for Earth Day. Clean Toronto Together supports neighbourhood groups with cleaning materials and pickup. From their website:

Clean Toronto Together invites residents, community groups, schools and businesses to spend 20-minutes picking up litter and recycling that’s accumulated in local parks and other public spaces over the winter. Join us April 22-24!

Important information for 2022:

The City has a limited supply of free litter bags to support resident-led cleanups.
Participants are encouraged to bring/reuse their own plastic bags to collect litter and recycling.
Litter bags will be offered to the first 100 groups (of 5 or more residents) who register a cleanup. Eligible groups will be contacted by City staff. Quantities are limited.
Special litter collection will be available to registered participants.
Safety tips and COVID-19 guidance will be provided to all registered participants.
Registration closes on April 15.

About DECA

The Danforth East Community Association (DECA) is a group of neighbours that started working together in 2007 to make our community more vibrant, walkable, safe and fun. We’ve made big changes to our little pocket, starting with our East Lynn Park Farmers’ Market, giving facelifts to a number of Danforth stores and bringing the Danforth East Community Arts Fair to the community. We call ourselves a “community” association rather than a “resident” association because we feel it is important to include residents, businesses, schools, places of worship, and other organizations in the conversations we have about how to make our home on Toronto better for all of its inhabitants.

*Our catchment is between Monarch Park and Main, the railway tracks and Mortimer/Lumsden.

Day of Action for a Just Transition; Join the DECA Board; AGM coming up

Hello neighbours!

This Saturday in East Lynn Park, our friends at the Toronto East End Climate Collective are hosting a Day of Action for a Just Transition – imagining the opening of a Just Transition Job Creation Centre for Beaches East York.  There will be music and guest speakers! If you’re interested in volunteering for the event, email cnosaty@goodmedia.com or coreyhelmrece@gmail.com.

In DECA news, we would like to invite you to apply to our board! If you’re interested in being considered for a position on DECA’s Board, please submit a short blurb about yourself, that articulates your motivation for joining DECA and your ties to the community to info@deca.to by Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

Finally, our AGM will once again be online this year, on Tuesday, March 22. The zoom link will be posted at www.deca.to.
