Kidpreneurs 2023 -Apply now!

Are you/do you know someone between the ages of 6-14 with a cool business idea? Do you want to learn how to sell that homemade product? Then the Kidpreneur Program at the East Lynn Farmers’ Market is for you!

Inspired by Leslieville Market’s Kidpreneur Program, our Kidpreneur Program will return for the second year to give kids the opportunity to gain experience being a vendor and selling their own goods at the East Lynn Farmers’ Market in East Lynn Park.

HOW IT WORKS:

The Kidpreneur Program will be led by volunteer Clifton Corbin, an author and local financial literacy advocate. Clifton will be supervising on-site and assisting the Kidpreneurs during their participation at the market.

Program participants will have their own vendor booth to sell their products on select Thursday afternoons in July and August at the East Lynn Farmers’ Market. They must stay for at least 2 hours, starting at 3:30 pm and arriving at 3:15 pm to set up.

We are asking participants to donate a portion of their profits to a charity of their choice. Many businesses do this to support their local community and issues they care about.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The cost to participate is $5.00.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The program is open to anyone between the ages of 6 – 14. Kids can apply on their own or in teams of 2 or 3. Parents and guardians must remain at the market for the duration of the program.

AM I GUARANTEED A SPOT?

Unfortunately no. We will do our best to accommodate everyone, but there is a limited number of spots available for the Kidpreneur Program at the East Lynn in 2023. We will be accepting applicants on a first come first serve basis. After the available spots are filled new applicants will be added to a waitlist and notified if any openings occur.

HOW TO APPLY:

Kids interested in the program are encouraged to apply by completing this form Clifton will reach out shortly!

Before applying here are a couple of questions to think about:

What do you want to sell?

What will you need to make this product?

How will you get your materials?

How much time will it take you to make it?

How much will it cost to buy your product?

Why is your product special?

Market this week: bring nonperishables, personal care items, flashlights, dancing shoes and your appetite!

Food Drive+

After the generous showing of our community at the Clothing and Small Appliance Drive on Saturday, we are back with a few asks for donations at the market this week.

Community Fridges TO will be on hand to collect donations of market foods, non perishables, and personal care items to stock the fridges and personal care banks in our neighborhood. Learn more about them here: https://communityfridgesto.org/

Kennedy House Youth Shelter is collecting flashlights and batteries to give to people living in encampments – it’s one of their most requested items. If you are able to donate, please leave your flashlights in the box in the DECA tent.

All the music

The Lane School of Music will be at the kids’ tent with their “Instrument Petting Zoo” for budding musicians of all ages to play!

Holly Clausius will be back in the busker tent with her catchy and fun tunes. You can learn more about her here: https://www.hollyclausius.com

See you Thursday!

Thank you, Danforth East!

With 209 sales on the map and so much happening in the area, it was an all-round beautiful day in the neighbourhood on Saturday!

Big thanks are owed to our volunteers for the work behind the scenes creating and updating the map, organizing the sales and keeping that social media fresh! Our yard sale committee consisted of Jenn Scott, Mark Rullo, Raktim Mitra, Audrey Kvedaras, Jenn Macdonald, Julia Hennessy and Rebecca Green. We are very grateful for their time and efforts!

Volunteers at the Clothing/Small Appliance Drive with Kennedy House’s Dayna Gill (second from right) and two van loads of donations!

The community really showed up with donations for Kennedy House Youth Shelter. By the end of the day, we had 4 loads of quality small appliances and clothing for Kennedy House, and an (extremely full) carload of clothes for New Circles. We would not have been able to achieve this without the stellar, energetic work of neighbourhood volunteers!

Finally, we are also grateful to Kimbourne United Church! While DECA rented the space, Daniel and Megan went far above and beyond in hosting the multi-seller sale.

Market volunteers wanted

Don’t worry, the yard sale wasn’t your last opportunity to volunteer with DECA! We are very much in need of folks to set up the farmers market Thursday afternoons and also for people to help with the kids activities. Sign up at the link below:
