To quote DECA co-chair Jenn early in the World Series, “I’m not really into baseball, but I am into displays of community joy.” This comment really resonated at the Arts Fair volunteer dinner, because it really reflects what DECA is about: not the baseball bit — I think most members took Game 7 pretty hard — but enjoying time spent together on a common endeavour, whether supporting a sports team, eating farm fresh food on a park hill, or perusing gorgeous handmade arts and crafts in that same park.
One of our most joyous annual events also happened on Saturday night. The Pumpkin Parade was packed with cheerful neighbours and about 600 brilliant pumpkins. A huge thank you goes out to the organizers and volunteers who made sure those pumpkins were displayed, lit, and ultimately smashed into the city compost bin. Shoutout to Scouts Section 115 Pack A!
Coming up on the November 15-16 weekend, we have our annual collaboration with Kimbourne Park United Church, preparing and serving their community meal. This is always a joyous event, and we couldn’t do it without volunteers from our community. If you are able to contribute, please email info@deca.to.
