Bikes, fairies, flowers and more at this week’s market!

A big thank you to all those that came out to Hirut for our volunteer orientation dinner on Monday night. We had a good turnout, an amazing meal, and some truly great conversations.

Market time!

This Thursday, June 1 is the first farmers’ market of the season. We are in East Lynn Park from 3 til 7, rain or shine. Here’s what’s happening:

Community Booth

In our weekly community booth, 32 Spokes will be on hand to do light tuneups on your bikes.

Kids’ Activities

As mentioned in an earlier post, we will be painting wooden fairy doors with the author of the Princess Lily series  , starting at 4pm.

Glitter tattoos, sponsored by Karina Sadu at Homelife Realty, will also be happening in the kids’ tent!

Rotating vendors

In addition to our usual slate of amazing vendors (see the list here) we are welcoming Queensdale Flowers and Bata Maple Syrup to the market this week! Queensdale Flowers will have local, sustainably grown cut flower products: fresh bouquets, everlasting (dried) bouquets, wreaths, pins. Bata Maple Syrup will have maple syrup and grass-fed beef from their farm just east of Toronto. And our first brewery of the season will be Left Field.

See you at the market!

Market kicks off this Thursday!

Pssst… will we see you at the Volunteer Orientation Dinner tonight? All info is at www.DECA.to

It’s the first Thursday in June this week, and as many neighbours know, this means the beginning of market season in East Lynn Park! We will be there with seasonal fruits and veggies, prepared foods, baked goods and beer every Thursday, 3-7pm, until October 12.

Our first week will have a little more magic than usual in the kids’ tent as kids will get to paint their own fairy doors with the author of the Princess Lily series, Sarah Bankuti. You can find more about Princess Lily at their insta @theprincesslilyseries — they write and publish inclusive children’s books and donate them to hospitals worldwide! Note that this activity will run 4-6pm.

We will also be doing glitter tattoos for kids in the kids tent (thanks to the generosity of Karina Sadu at Homelife Realty), and 32 Spokes will be on hand for bike tuneups!

You can check out DECA.to/market for more info on this year’s booths and vendors.

See you at the market!

June 10: Yard Sale and Clothing/small appliance drive

Check out deca.to/yardsale for the signup, the live map, and more info!

Time for the 9th Annual #DanforthEast Yard Sale!

This year’s 9th annual #DanforthEast Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, June 10th from 8am–2pm.

For some of us in DECA, the community yard sale is the most magical time of the year — a chance to amble on and around the Danforth, hunting for treasures and having great conversations with our neighbours. For the more entrepreneurially minded of us, it’s a chance for us to clear out our homes of things that no longer spark joy and sell them to the first group! Whichever team you join -treasure hunter or treasure seller- you have the opportunity for a fun and enriching day in our community.

Our local retailers will be joining in the fun with a sidewalk sale along Danforth East hosted by the Danforth Mosaic BIA.

DECA is populating a map online to show every
home and business participating in the sale!

Once you sign up, your application will be processed and your location added to the map. We will then send out further tips to help you with organizing your sale and contact information if you have questions.

Sign up to add your yard sale to the map here!

The most successful sales are the ones where the whole street gets involved. For example, Coleridge and the streets surrounding East Lynn Park have all had fabulous street sales in the past. You can too! Talk to your neighbours and ask them to get involved by sharing this poster: DECA Yard sale 2023

No yard? No problem! Sign up for our multi-seller sale at Kimbourne Park United Church. Note that this is a different registration from the yard sale map.

Register for the multi-seller sale here!

In addition to the multi-seller sale, DECA’s excited to host a clothing and small appliance drive at Kimbourne, which will benefit the youth at Kennedy House Youth Shelter and newcomers and other folks in the New Circles GLOW program. You can drop off your goods at Kimbourne between 12 and 4pm. Watch for a whole other post on this!

Stay up to date with all things DECA:

Please also help promote the #DanforthEast Yard Sale through your own networks! The more yard sales we have, the more people will come out, the more successful this neighbourhood event will be.

Check out the current Yard Sale map here!

Come to our volunteer orientation dinner for yard sale + farmers’ market!

May and June are busy times for DECA folks as we gear up for the East Lynn Farmers’ Market (starting Thursday, June 1) and the Danforth East Yard Sale (Saturday, June 10).

Volunteer Orientation Dinner

Both of the market and the yard sale require lots of people to make them a success. This year, we thought we’d start volunteer season with an orientation dinner at Hirut Ethiopian Restaurant on Monday, May 29 at 630 pm. The dinner will consist of a vegetarian buffet and cash bar, and you’ll have a chance to meet with other volunteers and hear more about these events. (PS kids are always welcome!) RSVP here to come to the volunteer orientation dinner: https://forms.gle/aoTJhstZVwbn9HEK9

Yard Sale Volunteers

This year, we are adding a multi-seller sale and a clothing/small appliance drive to benefit Kennedy House Youth Shelter and New Circles. We’ll need people to help with set up and sorting (and even delivering donations). You can sign up now or wait to learn more at the dinner.
