I’ve become one of those people who carries a camera at all times, and isn’t afraid to use it. My favourite subjects are buildings, graffiti and sunsets, and I enjoy reworking my photos to see what new framings or renderings will create an entirely new work. My current obsession is handmaking photo transfers on wood blocks, which creates an interesting distressed look to the greyscale prints.
I sketch, make pen and ink drawings and sew, but what I enjoy most is making creatures. I started making creatures when I was 13 and they have evolved since then. I sculpt them out of an oven bake clay, bake them, and then paint them. I hinge the joints so they move more freely and look more lifelike. Recently I have been making marionettes and am trying to figure out how to hinge a jaw. My source of inspiration comes from movies and books such as Pan’s Labyrinth, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Grimm’s fairy tales, The Graveyard Book, and Alice in Wonderland. I’m a fan of Guillermo Del Toro, Tim Burton, and Wes Anderson.
I was born and grew up in Athens, a place with a deep history in jewellery. I began learning traditional goldsmithing skills early in life and have been doing the job that I love making handmade jewellery for women and men for more than 20 years. My silver, gold, and gemstone creations are inspired from my experience, and the natural and urban landscapes from travels I do every day in different corners of the city and globe.
