Your Lists for the Farmers’ Market

Have you tried the Ontario raspberries yet? What about the sweet peas? Those are two staples on my Thursday shopping list for the farmers’ market. If you want some inspiration for your shopping list, have a look at some of the pictures below.

On the ‘fun’ list this week, the splash pad at East Lynn Park is OPEN! And our friends from Silly Goose Kids are popping by with bubbles and other fun activities at 4:30.

Nurses from Toronto East General Hospital’s Emergency Department will be at the market with information on sun safety and tips for staying healthy this summer.

Also, we’re looking for a handful of volunteers to help with the next exciting event – the Food Truck Festival on July 18th. If you can spare a few hours, or have a teenager looking for some volunteer hours, please let us know. (shelleydarling(at)yahoo.ca)

The East Lynn Farmer’s Market runs every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. between June 6 – October 17 at East Lynn Park, located on the south side of Danforth Ave, just west of Woodbine Ave. Stay up to date by visiting the new East Lynn Market Facebook page.

New Hours and Canada Day closings

Fashionistas take note: after sussing out the needs of their customers, Krystle Lee and In This Closet have updated their store hours.

Krystle Lee’s new hours:

Monday: closed
Tuesday-Friday: 11-7
Saturday: 12-6
Sunday: private appointments between 12-5

In This Closet’s new hours:

Monday: closed

Tuesday-Thursday: 11-8

Friday: 11-9

Saturday: 12-8

Sunday: 12-5

E-Closet‘s Natasha will be heading to L.A. to stock up on new fashions for the shop (score for us!), so she’ll be closed on holiday Monday and will re-open Thursday, July 4.

A Market, of Course! & Parenting Workshop

“Why are all those people in the Park?” A Farmers’ Market! Of Course!

If you are newer to the Danforth East area or perhaps have only recently discovered the East Lynn Farmers’ Market, check out this video about the history of how DECA Board Member Alison McMurray and the Farmerlicious Femmes transformed the park with a farmers’ market. And we’re all thankful they did!

What’s on this week:

Naturopathic Doctor Nana Jokura will be offering free tongue and pulse diagnosis and will be discussing how to enjoy a healthy natural summer (3:00-5:00 pm)
Mrs. Darling’s will be running her creative craft table (starting at 4:30 pm)
Students from Silver Spirit Karate Club will provide market goers with a demonstration (4:30 pm)
The Patchamama Quilt group will be on hand with information about how to express your hopes and dreams for Mother Earth and contribute to a quilt reflecting the expressions of support for the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth to be presented at the United Nations
A birdie told me that there might be some henna artists hanging out at the face painting tent. You’ll just have to show up to find out!

East End Tool Library Launch Party – Wednesday!

Join the Toronto Tool Library this Wednesday to celebrate their new Danforth East location!

We are thrilled to let you know that the Toronto Tool Library signed a lease at 1803 Danforth Avenue, just east of Coxwell! (Yet another former DECA pop-up shop – we’re on a roll!)

To celebrate, please join them for their East End Launch Party at Sarah’s Cafe & Bar (1426 Danforth Avenue) this Wednesday, June 26th from 7:30-10 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served, and all ages are welcome. Hope to see you there!

A Message From the Tool Library Team:

In addition to hundreds of tools to sign out at the Library, our on-site Makerspace will provide members with 24/7 access to 3D printers, band-saws, table saws, a laser cutter and CNC Router (to name a few). The 1900 square foot facility at 1803 Danforth Avenue will also feature workshops and after-school programming for youth (ages 8 and up) and adults of all ages.

To ensure the project is a success we need your help! We have lots of space to renovate and equipment to purchase so please consider becoming a Founding Member for just $500 each! We will also be offering less expensive supporter packages as well, click here for more details.
