Your Market – Get Involved!

Our market is fortunate to have so many committed volunteers that help each week.  But we’re always looking for more people to help out. There are many different ways to get involved.  First, we need volunteers to be stationed at the DECA booth each week trying their best to answer random questions, being a smiling face to neighours and helping the market manager with setting up and taking down the DECA tent and table. Later in the year we could use a few extra hands closer to 7:00 p.m. to help with taking down of the tents and tables as it starts to get dark early.

Second, we have a number of neighbours who cook dinner for our farmers each week.  That’s right! We don’t let the people who bring us food each week go hungry on their drives back to farm country.  This involves cooking 15-20 meals of your choice in your kitchen and bringing them to the market.  A small honorarium is provided.  We are looking for a few volunteers for these specific roles in July and August.  So if it’s something you’d like to try, send us an email (events(at)danfortheastcommunityassociation.com).

Also, we’re always looking for people with photography skills to take pictures of the market to be used online and in other promotional material and graphic design skill to help us make a few posters each year to advertise our special events.  Finally, we have so many generous individuals and businesses who donate their talents for the weekly children’s activity. If you have a talent or idea to contribute or know someone who does, let us know.
If you’d like to contribute in any of these ways, or have an idea for something else that will add to the volunteer magic that makes our market so spectacular, please let us know by emailing us.

Youth opportunity – free booth at Arts Fair in Sept!

Thanks to volunteer extraordinaire, Melanie, for this exciting post!
Danforth-East-Arts-Fair-1024x295
Year after year, the Danforth East Art Fair has proven that we are living amongst a mass of creative and artistic genius. With nearly 60 artisans and vendors participating in the Art Fair this fall, we are confident that this will be our best year yet. New to the Art Fair in 2014 we will be hosting a Youth Booth for two talented kids ages 12-17 years old, proving that talent and creativity are ageless. Thanks to our generous community sponsors at Bosley Real Estate and Pegasus Studios, these kids will have a chance to show and sell their goods at no cost during the art fair.
Perhaps you know a budding painter, jeweller, fashion designer or sculptor? We are looking for young artists working in any medium who are able to show and sell their work in an open market during the weekend of September 13-14, 2014. This is an excellent opportunity to network with established artists in the community as well as to develop personal portfolios for the future.
If your interested or know someone who may be, fill out our application before July 15, 2014 and email it to deca.arts@gmail.com.
